What We Believe
Aligned with several Christian traditions, we resonate with the convictions articulated in the Apostles Creed. These foundational beliefs encompass:

* The unwavering faith in a singular God, the architect and nurturer of all existence.

* The affirmation of the Trinity, a harmonious unity of three manifestations: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

* Our steadfast belief in Jesus Christ, God's Son, whose nature beautifully intertwines divinity and humanity.

Our Story

From Historical Roots to Inclusive Future
The Evolution of Elizabeth UMC
* Elizabeth Church was first a "Campground Meeting Place" for Methodists. The first preachers were circuit riders who traveled over eastern North Carolina: Johnston County, Wayne County, down to Onslow and Duplin County.

* The first building to serve worshippers at Elizabeth Church was built in 1839. When it burned, the present building was a community project built in 1853 of local white pine. It is the oldest Methodist Church in the Goldsboro District that has been in continuous service.
History

Inclusive Horizon
Founded in 1839, Elizabeth UMC in Johnston County District has transformed from a simple campground to a beacon of hope and unity. Guided by God's light, we've shifted from old traditions to a journey of love and inclusivity. As a Lighthouse Congregation since February 2023 in the North Carolina Conference, our doors are open wide, particularly to those displaced from other United Methodist Churches or whose church home has closed. Our vision: to honor our roots, and ensure a future where all feel cherished and seen in God's loving embrace.
